Chris & Lara, Traditional Cypriot wedding in Paphos

I first met Lara on a Sahara tour In Morocco in 2012, which, by the way, was epic (I got thrown of a Camel!). Little did I know I would later be a part of her Traditional Cypriot wedding in Paphos . It's amazing the people you meet while travelling!

Chris and Lara's  Cypriot wedding is probably one of the most fascinating weddings that i've had the privilege of photographing. There were lots of traditions for example friends and family dress the groom just before the wedding. It involves music, food, shaving the grooms beard, wrapping a red sash around the grooms waist and olive leaves are burnt in a vessel called a ‘kapnistiri’.

During the ceremony there is a marriage crown and a ribbon that binds the two crowns, representing the lasting union between bride and groom. The reception is an amazing feast! Friends and family drop in and out of the wedding to say hello and they eat well! And then the evening continued with a mix of traditional and party dancing - so much fun!

Thanks to Chris and Lara for having me in Cyprus and asking me to photograph your wedding! It was a real treat for me and it's one I won't forget! I wish you all the best in your marriage with lots of laughter and fun!
